Movies To Watch

Here’s a general list of movies to watch. Truly awesome movies that can change your world… or at the very least thrill you for a couple of hours.

SCIENCE FICTION/FANTASY/HORROR

12 Monkeys
28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later
AI–A truly great movie about a robot boy just wanting to be loved.
Aliens–The whole series is truly great. What’s to hate about horrible creatures bursting out of peoples’ chests? Awesome! Plus, Ripley introduced the concept to modern television of a truly strong female protagonist. She doesn’t take crap from anyone.
Avatar
Bicentennial Man–My second favorite Robin Williams movie.
Blade Runner
The Chronicles of Riddick
Critters–Stupid alien ball things shooting out paralyzing darts and just basically messing everyone up. Meanwhile, they run around all over the place terrorizing people. Funny movie.
Cube
Dark City
Dark Water–both the American and the Japanese (?) versions are very good.
Dawn of the Dead
Demolition Man–Very old sci-fi, I winced the last time I watched this (ah, memory is fickle) but it’s still a good movie.
Doom
Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog
Dune
The Fifth Element
Galaxy Quest
Iron Man
The Island
Lost In Space
Meet Joe Black
Pandorum–Ben Foster as a man waking up on board a ship with no memory of what came before. He’s hunted by horrible monsters and sees it happening to other humans. A great, straight-up sci-fi story with some action tossed in for luck.
Pitch Black–first in the Chronicles of Riddick.
Pleasantville
Ravenous
Resident Evil
Serenity
Sky High
Sleepy Hollow
Stargate
Star Wars
Terminator
The Thing
Tin Man
What Dreams May Come–This is such a beautiful movie. Be prepared to cry even as it completely changes your world.

ACTION/ADVENTURE MOVIES

A Knight’s Tale
Batman Begins
The Big Hit
Blackhawk Down
The Cell–The only Jennifer Lopez movie I really like.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
The Dark Knight
Dave
Die Hard–McClane is the be-all end-all action hero. “Yipi-ki-yay mother-bleeper!”
Fallen
Fargo
From Hell
Gladiator
Hard Candy–OMG, this is a truly great movie with some great acting. Very disturbing, though.
Harlem Nights
Hero Jet Li. ‘Nough said.
Hook
Kick Ass–My love for superheroes shines through. I fast forward through the scenes with Kick Ass in them, but I love Hit Girl.
Kill Bill
Kingdom of Heaven
Last Samurai
Man On Fire
Minority Report
Mr Brooks
Mr & Mrs Smith
Murder By Numbers
Platoon
Pulp Fiction
RED–Means something like “Retired Extremely Dangerous” and that’s exactly what these people are.
Red Dragon–Edward Norton is a great actor.
Reservoir Dogs
Seven
Traffic
Untraceable–Diane Lane is awesome in this movie.
V For Vendetta
We Were Soldiers
Zulu

ROMANCE/CHICK FLICKS/MUSICALS

27 Dresses
50 First Dates–This movie made me want to laugh and cry at the same time.
City of Angels
Definitely Maybe–This was a cute movie about a man telling his daughter the story of how he met her mother. So it’s kind of like that show, but not like 600 episodes long 🙂 A nice movie.
Ever After
Finding Neverland
Gigi–Somewhat old-fashioned, maybe a bit disturbing on the creeper front, but still a movie that should be seen. Beautiful clothes and scenery and you eventually start to get into the story of a young trained up to be the mistress of a rich young man that decides he’s fallen in love with Gigi.
Josie & the Pussycats–This movie is surprisingly hilarious. “Back door lover…” Seth Green and Breckin Meyer as Tujour? Nice.
Juno
Mary Poppins
Moulin Rouge–I was surprised to realize that Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor could sing. A truly great movie of sweeping romance, jerky evil, and beautiful set and costume designs.
My Fair Lady
The Nightmare Before Christmas–One of my most favorite movies. Tim Burton’s masterpiece.
Penelope–An adorable movie about a girl born with the face of a pig due to the curse that the first daughter born to her family would have the face of a pig until “She is loved by one of her own kind.” Christina Ricci is great in this movie, plus Reese Witherspoon.
The Princess Bride
Sabrina–Both the new Harrison Ford version and the old Audrey Hepburn movie. Such a charming story about the daughter of the chauffeur and the sons of the house, both of which fall for her, in one way or another.
The Sound of Music
Twelfth Night
