It is cold af

It is currently so cold that I wish it would snow and get it over with. Like, it might actually feel warmer if it would snow.

The worst thing about sleeping when it’s cold is that my feet get cold. When I’m sleeping I don’t notice, but when I wake up I’ll find out my feet are like bricks on the ends of my legs. I won’t be able to feel them for a while except that slightly warm water feels like boiling against my skin.

I just saw “The Society of Snow” (English translation) on Netflix. It was about the 1972 plane crash of the soccer team in the Andes Mountains.

It’s been a long time since I saw the “Alive”(?) movie about the same crash.

I figure the worst ways to suffer are freezing or burning. That they were starving at the same time they were freezing… It must have been hell.

  1. It got down to 10 degrees here last night. I finished filling in all the water line trenches last week. And last night I left the faucets on a slow drip, so the water is passing through the entire outdoor line in less than an hour. I also found a
website that shows the soil temperature at various depths, and it seems pretty stable from 14 in. on down. I put the big space heater in my bedroom last night and the little one in my office. This morning it was 47 in my office and 52 in the living room. I dunno what the temp was in my bedroom, but I was pretty snug under four quilts — the only problem was when I wanted to turn over I had four cats crowded up against me.

  2. It’s one degree outside and about 45 inside my house, and currently snowing. Figured this would be an ideal cheat day for watching Snowpiercer. I’d reread Ramsey Campbell’s Midnight Sun if I hadn’t already done so last fall. I suppose an Eraserhead viewing would also be cathartically depressing on a gloomy day like this.
