Anyone else still using facial whip makers? I have an off-brand one (that looks like a cat head!) that I use with a Dove Beauty Bar.
It works well for me because I can use the foamer part to scrape a bit off the bar of soap and use the facial whip maker to create a bunch of foam to wash my face. And I don’t get the rest of the soap bar wet, so it lasts longer.
My only complaint is that I always make too much foam for me to use with one washing. So like, "This stupid thing works too well. Throw it away" lol.
I suppose if I didn’t have the facial whip maker and I wanted to save a bar of soap for long term use, I could use a grater and grate off a bunch of soap into a jar or something. Then I could shake some soap shavings out when I wash my face. But I already have the facial whip maker, so why not use that?
Anyways, I’m not saying I’m a super frugal person freaking out over wasting "My precious soap bar!" It’s just that the most annoying thing about using a bar of soap is that once you get a bar of soap wet, that’s pretty much it. You have to use it or lose it.
So being able to scrape off a tiny bit as needed seems to work well.
Bars of soap take up less space and last longer than liquid soap. I personally use liquid soap because I’m lazy, but I figure if a situation happened–THE END OF THE WORLD!!! (economic collapse)–I would probably grab a few bottles of liquid soap and otherwise stock up on bar soap.
Like, castile soap can be used to wash cats and dogs. You want to get the plain castile soap without essential oils (dogs can handle some kinds of essential oils, but cats CANNOT at all), and it’s great for killing fleas and ticks on contact.
I use the liquid Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Soap for Babies because it’s milder, and the mix is more water per soap and it’s great for bathing the dog. But if I had to I could get a bar of castile soap, shave it, and mix it with water to make my own liquid soap. And people even use it alone to wash laundry, though it’s better to add some washing soda (sodium carbonate, NOT baking soda) if you’re making your own liquid laundry soap.
1 bar soap (castile, Zote, Ivory) + 1 cup washing soda (sodium carbonate) + 4-5 gallons of water = basic liquid laundry soap. Then if you want, you can also add some Borax, some baking soda, and some essential oils if you prefer, but soap, washing soda, and water will give you a basic laundry soap.
I don’t really like the smell of castile soap or ivory soap, but I also don’t really like the smell of Dove soap, so that’s just a personal preference on my part. I don’t know what Zote smells like, though I’m assuming that like the others it has a "plain soap" smell. So if I were making my own liquid soap and I didn’t have a cat, I would probably like to add some essential oils to create my own good smelling soap.

I’m just glad that I still use my facial whip maker. It’s not something that I bought just to later see it get thrown away. It is being used.
Is it a necessary object? No. But since I already have one, it is a fun thing to use.
But even without the facial whip maker, it might be a good idea to have a few bars of plain unscented soap on hand (it’s the additives–scents, moisturizers, etc.–that breakdown first and cause soaps to go bad). Same with a few boxes of toothpaste. They are consumables, so they will degrade over time (precious fluoride!), but they can keep for several years and you just have to use them before they expire. And soap and toothpaste are always useful to have on hand.
Even if you don’t use the plain soap for washing yourself, your dishes, your laundry, your pets, whatever, you can mix them with water and create your own spray to use in the garden. So if you’ve got little bugs on your plant that you want to get rid of, you mix some soap with water and spritz your plants and all those bugs will die and you won’t be adding harmful chemicals to your garden.
Anyways, I’ve been using my facial whip maker and I’m proud of myself. I bought it a long time ago and I’ve still got ways to use it. It’s not just another product taking up space for no reason.
Is it necessary? No. But since I’ve already got it… I use it to wash my face.
