News of the world today; spec Mars; virus; what-ifs

The news of the world today has been brighter than grim but still nowhere near where things should be. Lots of work yet to be done.

On this 420 I wish everyone the best.

2nd year its happening in quarantine. Here’s hoping next year is able to be a fun blowout event for those that need it.

Ted Nugent caught the COVID. Which could be the punchline to a joke, but is just the fact of the matter. He denied it until he nearly died from it. (No apologies to any of the people who might have listened to his opinion. But whatevs.) At the least he’s letting the public know he was wrong; COVID is real.

Though someone really ought to explain to him that it’s not called COVID-19 because there were 18 other strains of it, but because it was recognized as being a real unique virus on December 31st, 2019.

A simple google search and a trip through Wikipedia, and these conspiracy theorists don’t have to sound so "Do your research on YouTube!"-racist.

Especially considering the strain that plagued the Americas? Came from Italy.

Remember how there was that big to-do of an outbreak happening in Italy before the start of the pandemic? And all those people raced home to the States and there was no quarantine imposed?

And now, a year later, we’re spending the second straight 420 at home?

But whatever.

I always try to look at the brighter side of things.

The sun is shining. The wildfires haven’t started yet. There’s a possibility we can still fix things. That it’s not too late.

For reals. We’re not going to Mars. I don’t know why the few people that MIGHT get to see it and maybe live there are trying to wreck the planet before they go, but… Chill, man.

Here are some thoughts from a book reader:

  • What if you go to Mars and you hate it?

  • What if the colony fails and you’re in desperate need from an Earth you’ve left as a demolished ruin?

  • What if, though humanity someday makes a home on Mars, logistically speaking it ends up being like 140 years from now? Isn’t it easier to have a healthy planet in the interim rather than a smouldering wasteland of bitterness and ennui-driven murderporn?

  • What if aliens really exist on Mars and they attack the colony? (Whether as physically imposing attackers or as invisible microscopic invaders. Tardigrades infested with human-communicable prions that somehow get in the water supply…) Strange amoebas squirming around in brains, plugging in to either create or destroy connections. Being able to contact Earth for microbiologists might be a good thing.

  • What if you commit a murder or someone wants to commit a murder on you and you have to GTFO stat? It might be nice to return to Earth, versus scrambling from dome-city to dome-city being hunted by Silicate soldiers.

Even if the colonization of Mars goes perfectly to plan… Why destroy the Earth?

Maybe the first human martians might like to experience Earth gravity for their ownselves at least once if not and a while. You grok?

Pax.

P.S. You’re amazing. Keep it up.

P.P.S. Does anyone else remember Armitage III as being awesome? Or is that memberberries on my part? (Ah, sweet nostalgia. It helped me forget that the Popeye movie was a musical.)
