I am really interested in shampoo bars, so I’m going to be doing some research about them.<\/p>\n

They look like bar soap, but they’re solid shampoos. You wet your hair, and you rub the bar between your hands and the lather is supposed to happen when your hands touch your hair. (Though there are some bars that want you to rub them directly against your hair from root to tip.)<\/p>\n

A lot of them tout “all natural ingredients, no synthetics” while others just seem to be liquid shampoos minus the water and compacted into bar form.<\/p>\n

I would like a shampoo that doesn’t dry out my hair, gets it clean without stripping all the essential oils, and that is safe for the environment if I decide to wash my hair in the yard or camping.<\/p>\n

For reals, there have been occasions in the past when our one-bathroom home has caused me to quickly wash my hair outside in the yard with the garden hose. Like, there’d be somewhere I needed to get to and I wanted to wash my hair but someone would spend an extra bit of time in the bathroom so I’d have to make do. Or there were times when the house plumbing was being worked on so the water was shut off, but the hose outside was still available.<\/p>\n

I would like to wash my hair and not worry that I’m killing the birds and the bees and the butterflies and poisoning the environment for days, weeks, months, and years to come. Is that so bad?<\/p>\n

So anyways, I’m looking very interestedly at solid shampoos. And I’ve even considered what it would take to make some at home.<\/p>\n

Because you know Melissa Kim is Quantum Leap’ing through the multiverse, and at some point she’s gonna get her shit together and have a pack full of truly useful things. Now including shampoo bars and toothpaste tablets.<\/p>\n

P.S. Toothpaste tablets are a chewable toothpaste. They look like Altoid mints and are basically toothpaste without the liquid. You chew on them and they create their own lather, then you wet your toothbrush and get to brushing.<\/p>\n

From what I can see, they’re a bit pricey at the moment. But hopefully, as their popularity grows, the price will diminish.<\/p>\n

You can get them with or without fluoride, so you want to check the ingredients before purchasing. (I say Yes to fluoride in toothpaste, but give a serious side-eye to fluoride in drinking water.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
