{"id":4691,"date":"2019-06-18T14:32:41","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T21:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.harperkingsley.net\/blog\/?p=4691"},"modified":"2023-10-17T23:33:17","modified_gmt":"2023-10-18T06:33:17","slug":"poem-home-by-harper-kingsley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harperkingsley.net\/blog\/poem-home-by-harper-kingsley\/","title":{"rendered":"POEM: &#8220;Home&#8221; by Harper Kingsley"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">HOME<br \/>\nby Harper Kingsley<\/p>\n<p>A knock at the door<br \/>\ncame in the night<br \/>\nlifted me up<br \/>\nheld me so tight.<br \/>\nPromising words<br \/>\nof what&#8217;s yet to come<br \/>\nsoothing my fears<br \/>\n&#8216;It&#8217;s going to be all right.&#8217;<br \/>\nBut sometimes lies are promises<br \/>\nthat simply can&#8217;t be held<br \/>\nwhen the world is falling down<br \/>\nand love has turned to hell.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re fighting with our friends<br \/>\nsince our enemies are all gone<br \/>\nbecause peace is a stranger<br \/>\nwe don&#8217;t want to meet just yet.<br \/>\nDancing in the moonlight<br \/>\nused to be the height of fun<br \/>\nbut now that we&#8217;ve gone the distance<br \/>\nit&#8217;s all about who&#8217;s got the bigger gun.<br \/>\nBang bang<br \/>\nat the starting gate<br \/>\nboom boom<br \/>\nacross the line<br \/>\nwatch as the world is burning<br \/>\nkeep telling the lie that you&#8217;re fine.<\/p>\n<p>I can see you crying<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s tears mixing with the rain<br \/>\nyou keep insisting that you&#8217;ll make it<br \/>\n&#8216;Deep down you&#8217;re okay.&#8217;<br \/>\nI&#8217;m having trouble breathing<br \/>\naround the words I cannot say<br \/>\nbut God knows that I love you<br \/>\nI wouldn&#8217;t have it any other way.<br \/>\nI watch you tear yourself apart<br \/>\nand there&#8217;s nothing I can do<br \/>\nyour heart is full and deep<br \/>\nit&#8217;s the biggest part of you.<\/p>\n<p>They want to tear you apart<br \/>\ntheir smiles are nothing but teeth<br \/>\nthey would consume you if they could<br \/>\nbut I&#8217;ll knock &#8217;em off their feet.<br \/>\nIf you&#8217;re not strong enough to fight<br \/>\nthen I will fight for you<br \/>\nI will hold you up<br \/>\nI will see you through.<br \/>\nUntil you&#8217;re strong enough to walk<br \/>\nto stand up on your own<br \/>\nI will stand by you<br \/>\nand make myself into a home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HOME by Harper Kingsley A knock at the door came in the night lifted me up held me so tight.
