{"id":4459,"date":"2017-06-12T23:11:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-13T06:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.harperkingsley.net\/blog\/?p=4459"},"modified":"2023-10-17T23:34:54","modified_gmt":"2023-10-18T06:34:54","slug":"re-movie-sunshine-beautiful-movie-scifimovies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harperkingsley.net\/blog\/re-movie-sunshine-beautiful-movie-scifimovies\/","title":{"rendered":"RE MOVIE: &#8220;Sunshine&#8221; is such a beautiful movie #scifimovies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s something about the science fiction movie &#8220;<strong>Sunshine<\/strong>&#8221; that makes me watch it every time it comes on TV.<\/p>\n<p>I own a copy of the DVD.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just such a great science fiction movie that I can&#8217;t resist the allure of watching it when it appears.<\/p>\n<p>You have to see it from the beginning, so you can understand the story and be sucked into the madness.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The basic premise is that there&#8217;s been a catastrophic solar event and our sun is dying.<\/p>\n<p>It has already reached the point where most of the world is covered in ice and the human race is fast approaching extinction.<\/p>\n<p>Seven years before the events in &#8220;<strong>Sunshine<\/strong>&#8221; take place, the Icarus I was launched toward the sun carrying a bomb loaded with half the world&#8217;s fissionable material. Her mission was to pass out of communication range of Earth and approach close enough to the sun to launch her payload &#8212; birthing a new sun out of a dying star.<\/p>\n<p>The Icarus I disappeared; the sun&#8217;s unchanging smolder proof that the mission was unsuccessful. Thus the Icarus II was launched toward the sun, loaded with the other half of Earth&#8217;s fissionable material.<\/p>\n<p>The bombs are massive. The sunshield is fascinating.
