He sounded grown up to her ears, more mature than his sixteen years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was a single devastating blow to the back of your uncle&#8217;s head. He died near instantly,&#8221; the medical examiner said. &#8220;He felt no pain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lilah wanted to shout at him&#8211;&#8220;<em>How do you know there was no pain?!?<\/em>&#8220;&#8211;but bit her tongue. He hadn&#8217;t been the one to murder her little brother. He was simply the one telling them Jamie was dead.<\/p>\n<p>Her brother was dead.<\/p>\n<p><em>Jamie is dead<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Her vision began to tunnel and there was a rushing sound in her ears.<\/p>\n<p><em>I&#8217;m going to pass out<\/em>, she thought. It was such a strange thing&#8211;she&#8217;d never fainted before&#8211;and there was nothing she could do to stop it.<\/p>\n<p>Gently pulling herself from Scott&#8217;s arms, she stumbled backward against the wall.
