THOUGHTS: Famous People

I have an insatiable curiosity about the weird things some famous people get up to.  It’s cool to see new pictures of their babies, to hear stories about things they’ve seen or done, and to basically see them in their everyday lives.

It’s nice to see famous people coming across as normal, but sometimes there are some personality quirks that famous people should keep to themselves.  I want to believe in the image they portray, and I don’t really want to have my liking of an actor or actress shattered by real life.

There’s nothing worse than having a writer or an actor or actress go all prima donna on their fans.  To have them personally take over their message boards and just go all crazy with Super Me-ness.  Things just get out of control, they get all spun up by their delusions of grandeur, and at the end of it all you have someone that calls their own fans idiots, deletes any post that doesn’t stroke their ego, and a mess of hurt feelings.

I think that when someone starts getting way too big for themselves, someone should just step in, stare them right in the face, and say, “Wake up.  You’re just a dude.  If you treat your fans like crap, they’re not going to buy your book/movie/CD.  You’re going to still have a ton of money, but you’ll have totally alienated your fanbase and all your new stuff will sadly crash and burn on release.  So if you want to be a dick, then go right ahead.  But don’t boohoo about it when no one cares about you in two years.”
