I am sending this from my Kindle as my computer is currently in quarantine (an airtight plastic tub). I’m hoping that the ants will get out where I can kill them.
I had never heard of this happening, but all you have to do is google “ants in my laptop” and you’ll see that dozens of other people have had the same problem. It seems that the tiny black ants are attracted to the heat inside of a laptop and will crawl in through the vents. They come out of the keyboard and sides of the screen one-by-one. It’s very gross, and a little creepy, to feel something crawl across the back of your hand even knowing that it can’t hurt you.
One guy had a whole nest living in his laptop, like eggs and everything. My current situation is maybe (hopefully) a handful of ants somewhere inside the casing.
I cleaned the whole computer with rubbing alcohol then wiped it with lemon juice (which ants supposedly hate) before sticking it in the tub. They should come out when they realize they need to breathe.
In the meantime I’ve been spraying the perimeter of the house with Ortho Home Defense since I haven’t been able to find the nest. I’m just hoping they don’t decide to split the nest, leaving me with two of them to deal with.
Anyways, I have bugs in my computer, literally.
(BTW, I don’t eat over my keyboard, so there’s no food inside. The ants just like the warmth.)
Man, that has to suck. Maybe I should move my laptop out of the kitchen, now…..
Anyways, if the ants like the warmth, would it help to put the laptop somewhere cool? They might leave to find warmth?
