Disabling CloudFlare took down my whole site

I disabled CloudFlare, and as a result it’s taken my whole site down. Now it’s unhappy times in my house, though I’m hoping adding a new post will get things back up. Foolish hope? Probably.

  1. Seems to have worked. Although, it does raise the question of, why did it happen in the first place?

    1. I have no idea. I talked to Dreamhost and the guy was like “DNS changes can cause problems.” Which is kind of weird, because why would CloudFlare mess up my DNS?

      1. And why was the DNS being changed, anyways?
Actually, I don’t understand website design or security, so I don’t know what I’m talking about. It just seems kinda strange.

        1. Haha, I don’t know much either. I spend a lot of time chatting with Dreamhost tech support after I’ve messed everything up. Those poor guys keep having to look at my site, but at least I don’t post a bunch of naked man pictures like other m/m authors, so I don’t have to be too embarrassed having them look around.

  2. I don’t think disabling CloudFlare can take your website down…. Or it can mess up with your DNS… BTW what you found? What was the problem?
